This vegetable has grown along seashores in three different colors such as green, brown or red. Their plants are grown near high-water marks and where these plants are exposed to air. Brown algae are widely distributed in colder zones including kelps and Fucus and are absent from tropical waters.

Seaweeds can be added to various dishes during cooking or soaked in water before eating. Kombu, a type of seaweed, is widely used in soups. Dulse and Arame are other types of seaweed that have a soft, sweet and chewy texture. These are also used during cooking.
