Body check
Small dents and scratches are common on older cars. Gaps between body panels are a major indicator of frame damage that was not repaired properly. Different colored panels are also a sign of repair damage that is severe enough to require the replacement of the bodywork.
Broken windshield or window
Windshield chips can become cracks that need to be repaired or replaced. Ensure all windows, manual or electronic, open and close properly.
Wheel and tire condition
To be road legal, all tires must be at least 1.6mm thick, so tires under 3mm must be replaced immediately. Uneven tire wear (excessive wear on one side compared to the other) can indicate poor wheel balance or steering or suspension problems.
Be sure to check the spare tire and tires. You should also have a jack, a wrench and, if necessary, a special adapter to secure the lug nuts.
