Accidents that cause injuries when wearing a mouthguard can be anything from a concussion to teeth subluxation, cracked or broken teeth, and an avulsion. A simple mouthguard could mean the difference between visiting the dentist, and could even save you from an expensive dental implant or crown!

Custom-designed mouthguards that fit your gums and teeth. They protect teeth from contact. They also allow you to communicate and breathe comfortably when playing sports. Mouthguards that are purchased at retailers for sports or "boil and bite" mouthguards, don't align with the teeth or mucosa in a good way. Thus, they constantly slip out of alignment, which causes interference with breathing, and disorientation, and loss of focus when you play sports.

Additionally, studies have found that "boil or bite" mouthguards may cause more harm following injury than not wearing the mouthguard even. They aren't able to adjust to teeth properly enough to absorb and spread the force of the injury.

Simply taking impressions of the lower and upper teeth is required for models from which your custom-made mouthguard is made. The impressions are made with the help of alginate which takes about 1 to 2 minutes to form. The impressions are used to make plaster models. Based on these models, custom-designed mouthguards are made using pressure or vacuum-making machines. The mouthguards made from the molds are cut to size and are usually made to be articulated to ensure that the bite is taken into account.
